Maline LaNoux was raised by
two parents who came from totally different belief systems
concerning life and death. The secrets Maline kept with her
Cajun father, and that she really wanted to share with her
evangelical mother, tore her apart as a child. She was confused
for many years about whose beliefs she should embrace until she
finally learned to trust herself and what she knew to be the
truth.
As a child, Maline’s Cajun
grandmother told her, from as far back as she can remember, that
she had the “gift.” The grandmother never had a chance to
explain just what this meant since she died before she believed
Maline was old enough to begin learning how to use it. Her
grandmother was also aware of the great conflict this would
cause with Maline’s evangelical minister mother.
For many years Maline’s
father has her hold this gift captive for fear of her mother’s
wrath and the scrutiny he saw his own mother go through.
Eventually, there comes a time when Maline faces a spirit unlike
any other, strong and powerful and not of this world, that makes
her father realize she has to undergo the training he had hoped
she would never need to use.
Spirits of Louisiana:
Experiences of a Cajun Medium
is a reflection of Maline LaNoux’s life growing up with the gift
of mediumship in South Louisiana where her mother’s strict
religious beliefs collided with the practice of “Cadoo” and the
spiritualist culture of her Cajun heritage. She reveals her
experiences dealing with spirits of all types -- from children,
dead relatives, discovering her great-grandmother as her spirit
guide to taking on inhuman demonic forces.
