When third graders Dylan and
Andrew misunderstand their teacher and think the FCAT-- a test--
is actually a horrible creature, they create an “FDOG” to help
them find this FCAT monster. FDOG searches their school campus
with them for clues. They discover the truth only after meeting
a crazed janitor and rifling backpacks and classrooms.
Professional educator Bob Scallan uses humor to relieve text
anxiety surrounding the FCAT (the Florida Comprehensive
Assessment Test). FCAT and FDOG help to ease students’ fears and
teach them that, if they focus and work hard all year, the
dreaded FCAT is not that bad.
