  Code Of Theophilus
By Jay Zimmer

Award-winning journalist and author Jay Zimmer writes a blockbuster novel filled with pirates, hidden treasure, murder and mayhem.

Code of Theophilus begins with a pirate by the name of Theophilus Turner who steals booty from Captain Kidd in 1699.  Hunted by Kidd and the Maryland royal Governor, Turner goes mad but not before he buries the stolen treasure in the Chesapeake Watershed, then, as madness sets in, he buries canisters containing clues to the treasure’s whereabouts.

In 1901 an excavation uncovers one of Turner’s canisters in Annapolis, Maryland.  Curators don’t know what they have but the canister is tucked away in a historical building’s safe.  Fast forward to 2009, and a fire destroys the building and the treasure clue is stolen in a very unique way.

Enter Baltimore newspaper editor, Peter McDermott and his band of cohorts which include his boss, Charlie Hume, reporter Rod Pitcher, on-again, off-again girlfriend Eve Somers, and Maryland historical curators -- all tracking down clues to seek out the treasure.  Meanwhile a modern-day pirate and his sleazy band of boat hands are attempting to find the loot while doing a little drug-running on the side, and they’ll stop at nothing to make sure the treasure is theirs.  Then there’s Detective Steve Bagbey who is doing a little snooping around of his own.

Who will crack the Code of Theophilus and find the treasure?
