Disturbing,
gripping, and suspenseful best describe the top-notch storyline
in Richard Mowbray’s latest book. You become drawn to characters
afflicted with underlying sorrow while their Machiavellian
tactics are depicted so vividly your skin will crawl with
dreaded anticipation. Set in the 1930s and carried on through
the 1970s, this thriller holds nothing back as it delves deep
into the human psyche.
Harry Shackleton is only eight
years old when his father, Edward Shackleton, finally returns
after the end of World War II. Once a Cambridge graduate,
world-class runner, and Squadron Leader for the British
Air Force,
Edward has suffered unspeakable acts of cruelty in the
“research” department of an SS facility run by former adversary
Heinz von Zeller, now a military doctor, whose bitterness
extends to his brutal tactics as he conducts human trials.
Young Harry suppresses the
memories of his father’s stories of torture, and it is not until
he reaches adulthood that the shock returns and Harry vows that,
no matter how long it takes or what he must do, vengeance must
be claimed.
